THE WORLD'S OLDEST TV CHANNEL

CULTUR

With the advent of digital television one is today spoilt for choice with

the number of channels at one's disposal. Yet this was not always

the case and it was not only a scant 75 years ago that we were celebrating

the launch of the world's first regular public television service.

The station in question is of course BBC1, the primary television channel

of the British Broadcasting Coroporation and currently most-watched

television channel in the United Kingdom.

Today the BBC's annual budget is funded entirely by the licence fee,

which means that it can show uninterrupted programmes with no

advertising.
